CMHC Healthy Housing Award - 2001
In the early spring of 2001, Country Side Homes received the "Healthy Housing Award" from CMHC. This award is recognition for outstanding quality in constructing homes that meet rigorous standards of environmental, energy efficiency and air quality issues in residential construction. country Side Homes is the first recipient in Central Ontario.

We encourage all of our clients to build healthy, environmentally friendly homes by using products that are non-toxic and energy efficient. We designed the award winning home, a 1200 square foot bungalow, to get maximum use of the space in an open concept. The home design is ideal for many purchasers, from first time home owners to move-ups or even a retirement home. The one level plan has 3 bedrooms, master ensuite complete with whirlpool and walk-in closet, a large kitchen with eating bar and dining area, and a spacious great room topped off with cathedral ceilings and skylights. The full 9' basement is a bonus for the owners to finish later.

Some of the details that make the house particularly healthy are:
  • high performance windows with Low-E and agron
  • energy efficient appliances including a microwave, which is a low energy cooking option
  • energy efficient lighting fixtures throughout the house
  • all flooring is dust free, laminated Mannington hardwood
  • paint and urethane are latex, water based low emission materials and products
  • interior air is circulated through a Balanced Heat Recovery Ventilation System which exchanges the interior air with fresh outside air completely every two and a half hours
  • high efficiency furnaces, many heat systems are ground or water source heat pumps or forced air, oil or electric
  • Roxol insulation to levels exceeding the ontario Building Code, walls R28, ceilings R40
  • low flow aerator shower heads and faucets, ultra low flow toilets (6 litre)
  • shower walls have waterproof wall finish applied over water resistant material
  • foam seal around all openings to the exterior
  • all trusses have 7" raised heel for better insulation value
  • site preparation removes as few trees as possible to provide maximum windbreak and shade
  • house is oriented to achieve maxiumu solar gain.
These are some of the main points of "Healthy Housing" construction. Our family business has been building homes since the early 80s. We find these changes in client awareness of the enviroment and air quality of key importance to the comfort and enjoyment of their new homes. For people who have allergies or are sensitive to toxic materials, these advances are of great importance.

We are proud of the homes we build and especially happy to be recognized as leaders and quality builders by CMHC.
